Children's Services

Alternatives Incorporated recognizes children are also impacted by domestic violence. Living in a violent home significantly increases their risk and likelihood for several health, social, and emotional disparities. We have developed specialized case management and ancillary services for the children residing in our housing programs to help them break the intergenerational cycle of violence and heal from the trauma they have experienced.

Children's case managers meet with the child and parent to identify needs. They advocate for the child to secure medical, dental, and eye appointments; secure school transportation; provide school supplies; and establish behavioral health services if needed. Parenting groups, education, and assistance are also provided.

Additional programming is offered to support children's academic success, development of healthy relationship and life skills, and enhance self-esteem.

  • Robbie's Room is an on-site weekday program for pre-school age children. The program focuses on kindergarten readiness, including social interactions.
  • Kid Connection is an afterschool and summer program for school-age children in partnership with Anderson Community Schools and Anderson Preparatory Academy. Programming is aimed at increasing children's school performance; expanding community connections for children and their families; and enriching children's self-esteem and decision-making capabilities. Recreational opportunities are also provided to allow "kids to be kids".
